Services We Provide


Since 1904, members of the Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department have been proudly serving the residents of Greenwich, Connecticut and surrounding municipalities. The Department provides a vast array of services ranging from fire suppression to technical rescue to offering an explorer program for youths.

Fire Suppression

Protecting life and property of the result of fire remains one of the primary missions of SBVFD. Our members receive extensive training in firefighting and are prepared to respond day and night to emergency calls across Town.

Hazardous Materials

A hazardous material is a material that, in any quantity, poses a threat to life, health or property. More than four billion tons of materials classified as hazardous are shipped throughout the United States each year. SBVFD members receive special training to respond to emergencies involving hazardous substances.

Sound Beach Community Band

Since 1955, The Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department Band has been a summer tradition in Greenwich, providing marching music for the Department at area Firemen’s parades in Fairfield and Westchester Counties, and performing evening concerts at public parks all over town.

Technical Rescue

Since the 1980’s, SBVFD has been the designated Technical Rescue Team for the Town of Greenwich. In addition to being certified firefighters, our members receive additional training in vehicle rescue, rope rescue, confined space rescue, trench rescue, swiftwater rescue, SCUBA rescue/recovery and building collapse response.

Explorer Program

The SBVFD Explorer Program is designed for youths between the ages of 13-18 that are interested in learning more about the fire service. The program teaches young men and women leadership, community service and valuable life saving and emergency response skills.
